Gene Schall Captures SL2 Most Valuable Player Award

All year long Gene Schall feasted on Sub League 2 pitching to the tune of a .271 batting average. For his outstanding efforts he collected the league's Most Valuable Player Award for 1991.

The Modesto Flying Monkeys first baseman slammed opposing pitchers for 73 hits, 19 home runs and 57 RBIs, while scoring 47 times.

He received 18 first place votes out of a possible 26. Kevin Roberson of the Coaling Spiders finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Mike Groppuso of the Modesto Flying Monkeys finished third with 2 first place votes.

Mascouche's Timmons Wins SL1 Most Valuable Player Award

Ozzie Timmons had the sweet swing of success this year in the Sub League 1 and captured the Most Valuable Player Award.

The Barnstormers right fielder stung opposing pitchers with a .271 batting average, collecting 25 home runs, 18 doubles, no triples, 78 hits, 69 RBIs and scored 77 runs.

He received 26 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Roy Hammargren of the Mascouche Barnstormers finished second in voting, while Sherman Obando of the Mascouche Barnstormers finished third.

Checkers ace Tony Rodriguez is the latest Sub League 2 Pitcher of the Year Award trophy winner. The Des Moines star shined on the diamond time and again this year and finished with an outstanding 6-2 record.

In 12 starts he tossed 90 innings, posted 85 strikeouts and sported a 2.10 ERA. Opposing batters hit .196 when Rodriguez was pitching.

He received 15 first place votes out of a possible 26. Glendon Rusch of the Manvel Nordiques finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Radhames Dykhoff of the Des Moines Checkers finished third with 4 first place votes.
