Spartans Win League Championship Series Friday, September 27th , 1991 The sweet swing of Mike Lieberthal has led his team through the League Championship Series. The Chandler Spartans star earned series MVP honors as his club downed the Raleigh Black Cats to advance to the World Series. The Spartans won the final game at Spartans Ballpark by a score of 5-4 and the series 4-3. "I'm seeing the ball well and happy to contribute to a win," said Lieberthal. "I hope it continues for the rest of the playoffs." For the series, Lieberthal hit .385 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 5 runs. The Chandler Spartans will play against the Jersey City Fire Fighters in the next round. Jersey City won their series against the Spring Lake Whalers 4 games to 0. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes. |
