Castro Goes Cycling
|
Ismael Castro was jubilant as the Las Vegas 51s left the field with a win, 6-2, over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. He had every right to be.
The 24-year-old second baseman hit for the cycle at Security Service Field, had a 4-for-5 game and added 4 RBI and 2 runs to boot.
"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Castro said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."
Las Vegas manager Chris Bando was "proud" of the second baseman's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.
"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," the skipper said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."
Ismael Castro tripled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run double in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Miguel Rubio in the 9th.
So far this season, Castro is batting .228 with 11 home runs.
