Orioles Victors, 8-4, at Boston
|
With second baseman Mitch Maier leading the charge, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox, 8-4, at Fenway Park. Maier, the 41st overall pick in the 2001 draft, went 2-4 with a triple and a walk. He scored 3 times. The winning pitcher was Rey Gonzalez. He's now 9-5. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits for the Orioles. Baltimore sits in 4th place in the AL East Division at 59-81.
Baltimore used a clutch at-bat from Nelson Rodriguez to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Orioles ahead, 7-4. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Rodriguez told the Baltimore Herald.
