Kesey Brilliant, Blanks Blues
Saturday, April 28th , 1917
Kurt Kesey hurled a fine game for the Lafayette Locomotives at West Athens Stadium, holding the Akron Blues to 5 hits in a shutout win.
"When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy," Lafayette manager Edward Dyce said. "The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
The left-hander had 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in the 1-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," Akron manager Dom Shearer said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
Kesey has a 3-1 season record so far. In 6 starts, he has fanned 19 batters in 46.2 innings with a 1.74 ERA.
