Washington Hexed: No-Hit by Goater
Sunday, June 27th , 1915
The Niagara Nautilus were just hoping for a solid outing from Edward Goater. Instead, they got something special.
The 31-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Washington Senators, helping the Nautilus take the 1-0 win.
"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Nautilus. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
Goater's repertoire has a cutter and curveball, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Washington hitters off balance all game long. The Niagara hurler fanned 10 and walked 4 in his history-making performance.
"His cutter looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Washington manager Joseph Tousey joked after the game.
Goater has made 18 starts, tossed 165 innings, struck out 66 batters and walked 68. His record is 8-10 with a 4.04 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .288 batting average.
