Turry Bashes 5 Base Hits
Friday, May 5th , 1916
After his 5-hit effort at Academy Ballpark of Manhattan was tarnished by New York Academy's 3-2 loss to the Mid-Atlantic Academy Reds, right fielder Ignatius Turry told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."

He didn't get the win, but the 17-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-8 game against the Reds.

"His swing is getting there," said Blacks skipper Emery Williams after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Ignatius did that to perfection and we wasted it."

Ignatius Turry singled in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 8th, flied out in the 10th, flied out in the 13th, singled in the 15th and singled in the 18th.

Turry is hitting .226 in 1916 with 10 RBIs and 2 home runs.
