New York Wins Championship Cup Series
Saturday, August 25th , 1917
Ben Turner said he didn't even realize how well he had been playing in the Championship Cup Series until he was shown his own statistics.

The New York Black Kings right fielder put up a .375 average with 0 home runs, 5 RBI and 3 runs scored, enough to earn him series MVP honors. It all added up to his Black Kings advancing to the Negro League Cup Series, with a 3-1 series win over the Cleveland Black Cats.

"I didn't really pay attention to the numbers or my stats at all as we went along," he said. "I'm just so focused on trying to help the team win, that's it."

The series victory had become official with a 5-3 triumph at Kings Ballpark. Even if Turner is not paying close attention to his stats, the rest of baseball certainly will be keeping an eye on him as the playoffs continue.

"I like to be under pressure and think I respond well to it," he said.

The New York Black Kings will play against the Kansas City Stars in the next round. Kansas City won their series against the Savannah Goobers 3 games to 0. The Negro League Cup Series schedule will be announced after the Championship Cup Series finishes.
