The importance of Game 7 was not lost on Charles Griggs.

In leading the New York Black Kings to a crucial, 6-2 victory over the Atlanta Foxes at Kings Ballpark, the left-hander rose to the occasion, tossing 8 good innings. Griggs threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball as the Black Kings defended their home field to seize a 4-3 lead in the best-of-9 Negro League Cup Series.

With two out in the bottom of the fifth, Ben Turner barreled up a fastball from Wesley Smith. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Black Kings in front, 4-0.

"I was able to fill up the zone," said Griggs.

Game 8 is scheduled for Saturday at Foxes Ballpark in Atlanta.
