Hurler Robert Sargent gave the Portland Rosebuds a solid start. The native of Corona, California helped his team defeat the Tacoma Larks, 3-1, at Ballpark of Portland. Sargent, the winner, moves to 15-16. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 2 walks. Joseph Bludworth was credited with the save for Portland, his 3rd of the season.

In the bottom of the sixth, 28-year old first baseman Leonard Gould hit a run-scoring single to left. The single, which was hit off of Joseph Robinson, gave Portland a 2-0 lead.

Said Tacoma manager Earl Brown: "You just have to tip your cap sometimes."

Portland, at 62-83, occupies last place in the Cascadian Baseball League.
