Rosebuds Win Squeaker, 4-3, Over Larks
|
The Portland Rosebuds racked up a win at Brown Ballpark of Portland, bumping off the Tacoma Larks, 4-3. John Thorne, who started for Portland, pitched effectively for his team. Ambrose Watcham notched his 9th save in 10 chances. At 32-38, the Rosebuds find themselves in third place in the Cascadian Baseball League.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Lew Mason came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tacoma pitcher Henry Day, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Portland on top, 4-3.
"John is tough to beat when he's hitting his spots," said Portland manager William Marriott.
