Sawyers Bridle Rosebuds, 3-1
|
Getting an impressive start from Verne Bell, Seattle beat Portland by the score of 3-1. Frederic Sackett, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 4th save. With the win, Seattle raised its record to 22-22.
Ernest Clarke had a big solo home run for the Sawyers in the top of the fourth inning. With Seattle leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from John Thorne, who is tied for 2nd in the CBL with a 4.8 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Sawyers on top, 2-0.
Bell said his team "played with a purpose."
