Lions Collect 2-1 Win Over Ducks
|
The Los Angeles Lions earned a close win over the Oakland Ducks, thanks in part to Bennie Fidgeon. The Los Angeles right-hander, who is tied for 10th in the CPL in innings pitched with 216.2, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Los Angeles reliever Frederic Evans picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Angelo Tolley was saddled with the loss. Los Angeles currently is in second place in the Californian Professional League at 61-64.
The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the tenth when Roscoe Varney hit a run-scoring double off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Angelo Tolley to win the game for Los Angeles. The home crowd went wild.
"Bennie kept his poise and got the job done," said Los Angeles manager Herman Killigrew. "He was outstanding."
