Lions Suffer 5-2 Loss to Sacramento
The Sacramento Miners got a stellar performance from pitcher Kirby Merrick, who handcuffed the Los Angeles offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Miners Park. Sacramento reliever Teodoro Gledhill was the winner. His record is now 6-3. Alfonso Hall took the loss. The third-place Miners now have a record of 46-52.

Sacramento took a 2-1 lead on Odell Denby's 11th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Denby hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Los Angeles pitcher Alfonso Hall visibly frustrated.

In postgame remarks, Merrick said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
