In a low-scoring affair between the Los Angeles Lions and the Oakland Ducks, pitcher Bennie Fidgeon was the difference between victory and defeat. The Los Angeles right-hander earned kudos in the 2-1 Lions win. Carl Cooper notched his 3rd save in 4 chances. The Lions now have a record of 24-48.
Roscoe Varney had a big run-scoring triple for the Lions in the top of the third inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Gilbert Heaver and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lions ahead, 2-0.
"Good ballgame," said Oakland manager Magnus Jackson. "But we came up on the short end."
