Drooping Lions Lose 7th Straight
The San Francisco Spots downed the Los Angeles Lions, 4-0, at Spots Grounds. Stellar pitching by Bennie Hardesty had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 10th in the CPL with a 1.15 WHIP, handcuffed his opponent all game. Bennie Gray picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-1. Alfonso Hall, who is tied for 8th in the CPL with a 1.13 WHIP, was tagged with the loss. The last-place Lions have lost 7 consecutive games.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, William Loosemoor was at the plate when San Francisco scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Spots to go in front, 1-0.

"This game will humble you at times and you've got to buck up and deal with it," said Los Angeles manager Herman Killigrew.
