Spots Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
|
Lions Park was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
The San Francisco Spots took Los Angeles pitcher Teodoro Gledhill's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Lions Park. The final score had San Francisco getting past the Lions, 2-1. Gledhill went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 0. San Francisco reliever Floyd Martin picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Alfonso Hall was saddled with the loss.
Theodore Barker's at-bat with two out in the top of the 12th was critical. The San Francisco first baseman reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run, to put his team on top, 2-1. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Barker.
The Californian Professional League-leading Spots have a record of 32-15.
