Goobers Handed 2-1 Loss by Richmond
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Richmond Black Rifles and the Savannah Goobers, pitcher George Surratt was the difference between victory and defeat. The Richmond right-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 Black Rifles win. Richmond leads the Dixie by 7½ games.
In the bottom of the first, Richmond first baseman John Richardson had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Savannah hurler Leon Peterson, Richardson grounded out, driving in 1 run. That made the score 2-0, Richmond. For the day, Richardson drove in one run.
"This was a tough loss," said Savannah manager Brian Hensley. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
