Goobers Bash Black Rifles, 11-2
|
Led by George Gill, the Savannah Goobers defeated the Richmond Black Rifles, 11-2. Gill was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Goobers. Savannah pitcher Don Richardson earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. Fred Ross suffered the loss. The Goobers, now 10-3, have been playing some good baseball.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Goobers grabbed the lead when Wendell Betts rapped a two-out single. Savannah was trailing 1-0, when Betts hit a 2-run single off Fred Ross to put his team in front, 2-1.
"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Gill.
