The Savannah Goobers scored a tight, 2-1 win versus the Memphis Bears at Goobers Ballpark. Savannah pitcher Red Mathis held his own in the contest. The victory makes Savannah 5-6.

Savannah catcher Max Smith contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a slider to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 17th hit of the season and put the Goobers ahead, 2-0.

Mathis called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
