Starting pitcher Don Richardson took care of business, helping the Savannah Goobers stifle the Kansas City Stars, 3-2. The winning pitcher was Richardson, now 16-8. He tossed 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 6. John Kincannon was called on to finish, recording his 10th save.
Savannah took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Andy McAvoy stroked a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Goobers.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Savannah manager Willie Gatewood.
The second-place Stars now sit at 55-47.
