Canaries Win at Home, 6-2
|
The Saint Louis Canaries locked up a win at Ballpark of Saint Louis, knocking off the Savannah Goobers, 6-2. On the mound for Saint Louis was left-hander Guy Evans. He played a major role in the triumph. The Canaries now have a record of 46-51.
Pap Burke had a big 2-run double for the Canaries in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Saint Louis leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Don Richardson, who finished 3rd in the GSL in saves with 6 in 1908, and swatted a double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Canaries ahead, 5-1.
Said Saint Louis manager Sam Landers: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
