Goobers Dump Kansas City, 4-1, to Win 4th in a Row

The Savannah Goobers rode a solid performance from 31-year-old starting pitcher Clyde Pope to a win, beating the Kansas City Stars, 4-1, at Goobers Ballpark. In 7.1 innings, Pope surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. The save went to John Kincannon, number 6 for him.
One pivotal at-bat came in the top of the seventh with one out. With the bases loaded and the Stars trailing 4-1, Clyde Pope needed to make a quality pitch. He threw a 2-2 fastball to retire Bus Tolliver, who hit into a double play.
