Eagle Sends Philadelphia Bats to Deep Freeze
|
Larry Eagle of the Brooklyn Cuban Stars was on top of his game.
The 31-year-old tantalized the Philadelphia Keystones with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.
"He had the changeup working," Philadelphia manager Mark Holland said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Brooklyn hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort.
Eagle told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season, Eagle has a 15-14 record with a 2.99 ERA in 29 starts.
