Black Kings Better Cuban Stars, 2-1
|
The New York Black Kings topped the Brooklyn Cuban Stars, 2-1, in Great Northern action at Kings Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and Virginia Beach, Virginia, native Eugene Rowe. New York reliever Eugene Rowe picked up the win, while Larry Eagle took the loss for Brooklyn. New York goes to 66-47. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
Wendell McCurrine had a big run-scoring triple for the Black Kings in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a sinker from Larry Eagle, who finished 5th in the GNL in innings pitched with 261.2 in 1915, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 12th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Kings ahead, 2-0.
"I didn't leave too many pitches out over the plate," said Rowe.
