The Cleveland Black Cats besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Brooklyn shortstop William Saucier by beating the Cuban Stars, 5-3, at Newman Field. Saucier went 3-3 with 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs. Charlie Benjamin recorded his 3rd save for Cleveland. With this game in the books, Cleveland is 52-59, Brooklyn 52-59.
Bob Henderson drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances for Cleveland. In the bottom of the seventh, with the teams deadlocked, 3-3, Henderson delivered for the Black Cats. His run-scoring sacrifice fly put Cleveland on top, 4-3.
"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Black Cats manager Bill Pierce.
