Rollers Win 2-1 Walk-Off
|
The Pittsburgh Rollers, behind a great outing from Vic West, who is tied for 7th in the GNL in strikeouts with 98, defeated the Philadelphia Keystones, 2-1, at The Race Track. West got the win, improving to 12-12. He gave up 2 hits and walked 2 over 9 innings. He allowed 1 run. Pittsburgh has run its win streak to 7 straight.
The decisive blow was delivered by Gus Ware in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 32-year old right-handed pitcher Charlie Pointer to win the game for Pittsburgh. The home crowd went nuts.
"The old adage is true," said Ware. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
