Black Kings Earn Win with Late Rally
The Black Kings grabbed a win, 3-2, at Field of the Whales, overcoming a fine effort from Brooklyn pitcher Larry Eagle. Eagle went 10 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner in relief was Bus Cogdell. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. New York goes to 54-38. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Jackie Brinson came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Eddie Williams, he hit a full count cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 3-2.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said New York manager Walter Dunlap.
