Rollers Bridle Black Cats, 3-1
|
Starting pitcher Dick Cason gave the Pittsburgh Rollers a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Cleveland Black Cats, 3-1, at The Race Track. The winner was Cason. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball. The loser was Alphonso Harris. Bill Josephs closed the game out for Pittsburgh, earning his 15th save.
In the top of the ninth, Louis Smith stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Black Cats were trailing 3-1, but had runners on 1st and 3rd. That's when Bill Josephs made a terrific pitch and Smith struck out. Gone was the dream of a Cleveland comeback.
Pittsburgh, at 44-30, sits in first place in the Great Northern Heartland.
