The Indianapolis Stars earned a close win over the New York Black Kings, thanks in part to Tack Head Newberry. The Indianapolis right-hander, who led the GNL in wins with 22 in 1910, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Newberry yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 1. His record improves to 9-8. The win elevated the Stars to 40-29.
Indianapolis took advantage of an error in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Pete Presswood hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Stars in front, 2-1.
Newberry called the win "a team effort."
