Black Kings Win at Cleveland, 8-0
|
The 8-0 New York win over Cleveland was due largely to Ben Turner. The Black Kings right fielder was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Charles Griggs, the winning pitcher, is now 10-5. He went 8.1 innings, allowing no runs on 6 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 5. The Great Northern Gotham-leading Black Kings are 45-19.
The Black Kings got a big hit from left fielder Ira Cox. Facing Cleveland pitcher Leonard Dula in the top of the sixth, Cox pounded a bases-clearing triple to right-center. His 11th triple of the season put the Black Kings ahead, 6-0.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said New York manager Walter Dunlap.
