Buffalo Lose, 1-0, to Stars, Newberry
|
The Buffalo Electrics had no answer for Indianapolis Stars pitcher Tack Head Newberry. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Buffalo managed only 3 hits off Newberry, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Newberry got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Stars fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This season, Newberry has compiled a 8-8 record with a 2.19 ERA.
