Gardner Socks 2 Home Runs in 6-2 Pittsburgh Win
|
The Pittsburgh Rollers beat the Indianapolis Stars, 6-2, at Capitol Field. Pittsburgh first baseman Jimmy Gardner had an outstanding performance. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Bill McNeil, credited with the win, is now 2-6. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 9 innings. Pittsburgh now owns a record of 13-20.
Gardner had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a first pitch curveball from Leon Davis, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Rollers a 4-1 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Gardner.
"They had a good approach," Indianapolis skipper Tom Smith said of the opposition. "Hats off to them."
