Black Kings Collect 3-2 Win Versus Brooklyn
|
Jim Goodwin, who finished 2nd in the GNL in strikeouts with 139 in 1912, pitched well, but the Brooklyn Cuban Stars still fell short, losing, 3-2, to the New York Black Kings at Field of the Whales. The winning pitcher was Paul Clark. He tossed 109 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. George Augustus was credited with the save for New York, his 2nd of the season.
Ben Turner's at-bat in the top of the sixth was significant, coming with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the game tied, 1-1. The New York right fielder hit a 2-run single off Jim Goodwin to put the Black Kings up.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Brooklyn manager Leroy Fox. "The effort was great."
The win brings the Black Kings to 3-7, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
