The New York Black Kings picked up a win at Capitol Field, dropping the Indianapolis Stars, 3-1. Eugene Rowe, who finished 5th in the GNL in strikeouts with 119 last year, was the difference-maker. Rowe picked up the win for New York, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Picking up the save was 24-year old left-handed pitcher Bus Cogdell.
New York used a timely hit from Tom Snead to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Black Kings ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Eugene was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said New York manager Walter Dunlap.
The loss drops the Stars to 1-2.
