Brooklyn Earn 2-1 Victory at Capitol Field
|
Starting pitcher Jim Goodwin gave the Brooklyn Cuban Stars a rock-solid effort. The Miami Beach, Florida native helped his team defeat the Indianapolis Stars, 2-1, at Capitol Field. The winning pitcher was Goodwin, now 1-0. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. The save went to Eddie Williams, his 1st this season.
The Cuban Stars got a big at-bat from second baseman Lamar Cooper. For the game, Cooper was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Brooklyn a 2-1 lead.
Said Indianapolis manager Tom Smith: "You just have to tip your cap sometimes."
The victory makes Brooklyn 1-1.
