Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Indianapolis Stars were eager to watch Tack Head Newberry square off against Charles Griggs of the visiting New York Black Kings. In the end, the Black Kings won the game, 6-3, with Charles Griggs leading the way. Picking up the save was 24-year old left-handed pitcher Bus Cogdell.

New York used the timely hitting of Tom Snead to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Black Kings on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

New York manager Walter Dunlap was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
