Manhattan center fielder Sean Vollmer was sensational. He was 3-4 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Hemet beat the Mobsters, 9-7. Hemet reliever Erik Masi picked up the win. Ken Waldichuk, who finished 2nd in the HDL in strikeouts with 222 in 2028, took the loss for Manhattan. The defeat makes Manhattan 6-3.

Lars Nootbaar had a big bases-clearing triple for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Hemet leading 4-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Eric Hammond and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bulldogs ahead, 7-2.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Nootbaar, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
