Big Day at the Plate for Eldridge Not Enough for Rays
The New York Yankees overcame a good performance by Tampa Bay left fielder Josh Eldridge to knock off Tampa Bay, 8-6, at Yankee Stadium. Eldridge went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Picking up the win was Joe Sparrow. He went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. The left--hander struck out 10 and walked 3. The Yankees, now 16-4, have hit the ground running this season.

C.J. Landstrom was 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for New York. The 28-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a 2-run single off Tim Gauthier. It was his 21st hit of the season.

"Enjoyed this one," Landstrom told the New York Daily. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
