Valenzuela Lifts White Sox to 11-8 Win
|
No one was more impactful than Willie Valenzuela in the 11-8 Chicago win over Philadelphia. Valenzuela, who is tied for 7th in the AL in triples with 1, went 4-5 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Randy Hupp, who signed a 3-year contract worth $29,100,000 on 01/30/2043, was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Mike Davis. Chicago is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 8th in 20 games.
Chicago needed the clutch hitting of Nelson Guillen to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the White Sox on top, 11-8. For the game, Guillen had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Valenzuela, "and then get after it again."
