The St. Louis Cardinals and Oakland Athletics delighted fans at Oakland Coliseum.
With catcher Pete Spangle leading the charge, the Oakland Athletics defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3, at Oakland Coliseum. Spangle was 2-3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Mitch Burkett got the win, improving to 1-2. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Tim Hooper, who led the AL in saves with 42 in 2041, nailed down the save.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from first baseman Tim Gasior. For the game, Gasior was 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Oakland a 2-0 lead.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Gasior.
The win puts Oakland at 12-7.
