Tigers Use Late Score to Top Rangers, 3-2

The home crowd had a good time watching the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers get after it.
The Texas Rangers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Allen Primmer into a win. Instead, the Detroit Tigers prevailed, 3-2. Primmer threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. Julius (Jay) Alston picked up the save for Detroit, his 6th of the year.
Detroit took a 3-2 lead on Steve Sporrer's 4th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Sporrer hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Texas pitcher Billy Gildea visibly frustrated.
In postgame comments to the Detroit Daily News, Sporrer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Tigers, now 11-6, have been playing some good baseball.
