9-5 Loss Deepens Minnesota Funk
|
The Houston Astros spoiled a good performance by Minnesota first baseman Norm McLaughlin, bumping off Minnesota, 9-5, at Minute Maid Park. McLaughlin went 2-2 with a home run, a double, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Twins, now 55-81, have lost 14 in a row.
Steve Calabrese, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2038 draft, took Minnesota hurler Bobby Barrientos deep in the bottom of the third. His solo home run put the Astros on top, 2-1. In all, Calabrese had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 5.
Afterward, Minnesota manager Rich Wynn said: "Every team has a bad week."
