Diamondbacks Earn Late Win
|
Arizona pitcher Hiroyoshi Arakaki did his part in helping his team beat the New York Mets, 2-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Alex Shymansky finished the game for Arizona and earned his 1st save. At 65-68, Arizona is in 4th place in the National League West Division.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Robby Jeffries came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Jake Graham, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Arizona on top, 2-1.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Arakaki told the Arizona Gazette. "You win just by scoring more runs."
