Mariners Drop Mets, 6-5
|
The Seattle Mariners stopped the New York Mets, 6-5, behind an impressive performance from Danny Ambriz. The 25-year old shortstop made life miserable for New York pitching. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Omar Ortiz came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-1. Justin Pleasant recorded the save for Seattle, his 20th of the season.
The Mariners got a big hit from designated hitter David Mendez. In the bottom of the sixth, Mendez smacked a 2-run double off New York pitcher Randy Zimmerman. It was his 15th double of the season. Suddenly, the Mariners were ahead, 6-5.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Seattle manager Brenton Mariners.
Seattle has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
