Mariners Get Clutch Win Versus Boston
Despite a great performance by Boston center fielder David Ruiz, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Red Sox by the score of 7-6 at Fenway Park. Ruiz went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Reliever Tokuji Muramoto picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Bobby Mallory, who is tied for 3rd in the AL in holds with 13, took the loss. Seattle now owns a record of 40-44.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Daniel Guillen was at the plate when Seattle scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mariners to go in front, 7-6.

Guillen called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
