On Road, Texas Drops Boston, 2-1
|
The Boston Red Sox wasted an impressive 5.1-inning effort from starter Gabe Pipes, falling, 2-1, to the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. The win was credited to Brad Doney in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Dave McTighe took the loss. Chris Davis picked up the save for Texas, his 12th of the year.
Texas used a clutch hit from Ozzie Gonzales to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rangers ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Rangers manager Dave Hammertime.
Their 22-42 record puts the Rangers last in the American League West Division.
