Yankees Win, Phillips hits 13th home run
|
The New York Yankees downed the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-6. The hitting star was third baseman Chris Phillips. Phillips was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Yankees. Joe Fleming was the winner. He's now 6-3. The loser was 32-year old right-handed pitcher Coby Rosa. New York now owns a record of 40-23.
With New York leading 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Phillips batted against Toronto pitcher Phil Evitt. Phillips hit a slider to left-center for a grand slam home run. His 13th home run of the season put the Yankees on top, 9-4.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Phillips. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
