Harris Stars for Yankees in 11-4 Win
|
The New York Yankees powered past the New York Mets, 11-4, at Yankee Stadium. Chris Harris provided some of the pop. Decoy went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 7 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Chip Clark, who threw 112 pitches over 5.2 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 3 hits. The Mets, at 21-24, have lost 4 straight games.
Lou Wergin had a big 2-run double for the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Randy Zimmerman, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins with 17 in 2042, and swatted a double to left. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 3-0.
"We took home the win," said Wergin. "What's not to like?"
