Blue Jays Popped by Marlins, 6-2
|
Toronto got a decent performance from pitcher Ron Maples, but it wasn't enough to beat the Miami Marlins. Miami won the Rogers Centre contest, 6-2. Maples threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The winning pitcher was Mike Castaneda. His record now stands at 1-4. The right-hander went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the Marlins. The Marlins sport a record of 16-27.
The Marlins got a big at-bat from first baseman Tommy Allison. For the game, Allison was 2-4 with 2 doubles. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season gave Miami a 2-1 lead.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Allison. "You've got to get results."
