Twins Turn Back St. Louis, 3-1
|
In a tight contest between the Minnesota Twins and the St. Louis Cardinals, Sam Aswegan was the determining factor. The Minnesota right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-1 win. Aswegan got the win, improving to 3-3. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Abel Edler earned save number 8 this season.
The Twins got a big at-bat from left fielder Jose Mondragon. For the game, Mondragon went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead.
In postgame comments to the Minnesota Citizen, Mondragon said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Twins now own a record of 16-23.
